Our Toddler’s Garden Playhouse: Review of The Mini + Low Loft Bed

We are in the process of redecorating our toddler’s playhouse in the garden, and if you follow my page @LuxMumma you would have seen the first stage reveal which is now complete with the addition of the Mini + Low Loft Bed by Oliver Furniture from Skandium.

This modern Scandinavian designed children’s bed is a versatile piece that fits perfectly in our daughter’s playroom. The clever design has generous proportions with smaller measurements, which means it does not dominate a smaller space and this is ideal in city homes such as London, where larger spaces are a rarity.

The bed was very easy to assemble with the set of full instructions and tools provided. Overall it took us 30 – 45 minutes to assemble in its entirety. The mattress which fits the top bunk bed frame perfectly, can be purchased separately and I’ve linked both pieces at the end of this post. The overall measurements are; 74cm width x 166cm length x 132cm in height. We have decided to place it in our playhouse, however it is good to note that standard bunk beds could easily takeover a room, however the smaller measurements of this mini bunk bed mean you can essentially place the Mini + Low Loft Bed just about anywhere including the corner of a living room or hallway and it won’t overshadow your space.

The design is both stylish and modern, and the neutral colours of the white and oak, compliment most spaces and colour can be added with soft furnishings. Our playroom is a light and bright space, and I wanted to find furniture which compliments this aesthetic – the Mini + Low Loft Bed does just that, and I also like the attention to detail in the design from the rounded corners, which are perfect for safe play (no sharp corners anywhere in sight) to the leather straps on each end.

The frame is sturdy and very well put together with curved corners and thick oak pieces. Overall the bed is a quality piece, which is designed to last generations.

I really appreciate how this piece allows children to have two zones in one piece of furniture; the upper bunk bed for sleep and the area underneath to fashion as a cosy play or hangout area. I styled the loft underneath as a play zone, for reading or playing games. This was achieved by adding soft plush cushions along the back wall and two large faux sheep skin rugs to turn the area into an inviting space for play.

On the floor I have placed patterned foam tiled mats which slot together like a jigsaw puzzle and are a great way to cushion the hard wooden floorboards. The two frames above the bed contain drawn animal prints which were chosen to compliment the space and the wood frames to match the Mini + Low Loft Bed oak accents. On either side I have added a book display with our daughter’s favourite books and the other side is a toy basket. The wood mouse chair and grey pouffe provide extra seating and can both be moved underneath the bed frame which has ample space.
