Our daughter had outgrown her old car seat, and I was on the lookout for one which would meet our needs, with comfort at the forefront for our toddler, and additional safety features whilst also being stylish. Initially, my results only yielded uninspiring, usually black car seats, which looked boxy and rather dated. After nearly giving up on finding a practical and stylish car seat, I came across the Sirona Z i-Size Scuderia Ferrari by Cybex.
Cybex are a leader when it comes to combining style and practicality, and their collaboration with Ferrari does not disappoint. In past, I have reveiwed their Cybex Eezy S Twist stroller, and was therefore expecting alot from this car seat. After testing it out on our numerous trips to the country, I wanted to share my review with other parents and why it really stands out above the noise.
The car seat has two components, a base and the car seat itself which is known as an ISOFIX system. The base also has an installation indicator which beeps quite loudly if you have installed the components incorrectly – which we learnt the first time. On first installation, both my husband and myself installed it together, as it was a little fiddly and the components were heavy to carry. However, after installing it the first time, it was very easy to install the second time around and didn’t take more than 10-15 minutes.
Cybex have set a new standard when it comes to side and front-impact protection. At first, I didn’t really know what the two side silver wings were all about. After further research I discovered that when enabled they provided side impact protection in the event of a collision, and the energy-absorbing shell reduces the impact.
The Energy Reduction Technology offers the same protection for the forward facing position and reduces the force on the neck of a child by more than 20%, which is quite substantial. The 5-point harness system also proved to be very secure and our two year old daughter was held in place well, and it is very easy to click in place.
Secondly, and this is a game changer, the car seat sits on a base which can be rotated a full 360°, which means no more arching and contorting your back when placing your child in the car. This base also makes it easier to use for all car types, especially if you don’t have an SUV. I rotated the car seat facing me when securing our daughter in place, and then rotated it to forward facing position when done. I also noted that I could easily position the car seat front or rear facing, and this all depends on your child’s weight and height.
Bear in mind this is a heavy unit, so it is better to use it when you can leave it in one vehicle, as changing it over to a different car each time may prove cumbersome with the ISOFIX system.
A further advantage and which justifies the slightly higher price point is that parents can use the Sirona Z i-Size from birth to 4 years, this means you don’t need to upgrade your car seat after the newborn stage, as there is a newborn insert. The adjustable headrest offers 12 positions to grow with your child.
Reclining is also quite simple and can be performed with one hand. This means that when your child is sleeping, you can recline the car seat for comfort very easily. The seat itself is also very comfortable, the fabric is super soft, and the level of cushioning is ideal. I also found the headrest was cushioned and very supportive for our daughter.

The Sirona Z i-Size comes in a variety of colours which can be found here. I decided to go for the special edition Cybex for Scuderia Ferrari, which comes in two shades, a silver grey or Victory Black. I choose the silver grey which is a beige colour as I wanted something a little different from the standard black. The fabric is heavy duty and stain resistant; I choose the lighter colour and it has not stained as yet. Any spills were wiped down with a damp cloth and this worked a treat.
The details such as the Ferrari badge on the headrest, and red piping adds to the luxury style of the car seat. The silver side impact protectors, while a safety feature add to the higher end design concept and embroidered CYBEX logo also is striking against the beige. This is one seriously stylish car seat.
The Cybex Sirona Z i-Size has set a new benchmark when it comes to combining safety, functionality and style. This is a car seat designed to keep your child as safe as possible in a collision while also looking like a designer piece of furniture sitting on your car’s back seat.
The things I would change would be the weight. It is a heavier car seat possibly due to the additional features, and a two piece unit – the weight of the seat is 7.4kgs and the base is 7.7kgs, therefore as previously mentioned, it is best to leave it one vehicle rather than transferring it across multiple cars.
The features which I really like are the smart technology; including the one hand recline option and 360 degree swivel option are lifesavers and very convenient, further the comfort level with the cushioning, lack of any sharp corners and high end super soft fabric make it a dream ride for our toddler. Overall, the car seat is fantastic and will see a lot of use. The end result of this Cybex x Ferrari collaboration is a luxe hybrid – German engineering & Italian styling at its best.
