A growing bump means that it didn’t take long for most of my pre-bump clothes to no longer fit and are currently tucked away somewhere at the back of my wardrobe. It was approximately at the 25 week mark that I invested in maternity specific clothing after realising that my pre-bump wardrobe only had that much stretch and I was starting to feel a little uncomfortable. My first purchases were three pairs of H&M maternity skinny jeans, these proved to be the most comfortable out of all the pairs I had tried on in other maternity sections of comparable high street brands.  They are also great value for money and even after a few washes, the colour and shape still remain. I then invested in a couple of oversized jumpers and black tights from the New Look Maternity Collection, which has a wide and diverse range.

Then it was time to find a good fitting maternity bra, as in a wireless bra that grows with you and doesn’t dig in. I had a professional fitting at M&S (it is a complimentary service) and the fitter had really helpful advice on which style would suit me most. It is important to understand that your bra size will constantly change during and after pregnancy and a fitting is really helpful. After I tried on the super supportive M&S Sumptuously Soft Non-Wired bra she recommended, I was in absolute heaven, it was the most comfortable thing I had ever tried on (seriously). I nearly gave her a hug in gratitude, must be the raging pregnancy hormones! I will be back in two weeks time to be fitted for my M&S nursing bra which I will use once bub is born and it is good to buy in advance so that I have it ready in my hospital bag.

Another super comfortable, versatile and bump friendly piece is the The Body Bump slip. I have one in black and another in nude. The bonus of the material is that it is quite thick, so it hugs your bump, keeps you warm and moves with you providing much needed support.  I wear the black version as a dress and add a jacket or shirt over the top. The Body Bump also grows with you, which means that you can start wearing it as soon as you are showing and continue to wear it until the end of your pregnancy and beyond. A bonus is that the slip is ideal for nursing for when bub is born, so I will definitely be getting a lot of use out of it. Another benefit is the gel lined hem, which means it doesn’t ride up and you are not constantly adjusting yourself.

I’ve previously mentioned the positive effects of inhaling lavender oil in an earlier post when flying, but it is also beneficial in getting a good nights sleep by spraying it into your pillow when you get into bed (especially after a long day of bump shopping!). Lavender is universally known to be a calming and relaxing herb and is perfect as a night time ritual to assist mums to be in falling asleep, which I can attest to, as it does become a little harder to get a good night’s sleep as the pregnancy progresses and bump grows to mammoth proportions. The nipple cream I am yet to use, but anticipate I will be using religiously very soon, and I also love that it is not tested on animals, 100% natural and organic and therefore ticks all my boxes.
